Think "clean sweep" not "dig deep"

The Catch with Randall Foils

  • Rowers can now deliver a firm solid catch with no slip and achieve a direct transfer of power from the athlete to the boat. The Rower no longer needs to bury deeply to get a hold on the water. The foil allows the athlete to take full advantage of an earlier peak force curve.
  • Only the blade enters the water - Not the shaft.
  • A crisp sound is heard which assists crew timing.
  • The blade and Randall foil lock onto the water to deliver a confident solid feeling.

The Drive with Randall Foils

  • The blade sits at the water surface
  • Reduction in ‘slip’ as the Randall foil captures the water naturally flowing over the top of the blade.
  • The rower does not lever the shaft through the water as there is no oar shaft drag.
  • The oar is placed precisely and uniformly by the rower to a correct depth in the water as the foil prevents the top edge going below the surface of the water.
  • The rower can deliver a full power drive without fear of the oar diving or washing out
  • The shaft does not interact with the water, neither being buried into or raised out of the water.
  • The arm draw is responsive - the rower does not feel the heavy boat weight but feels arm draw contributing to the boat speed.
  • Straight pull through, as you would on a rowing machine, drawing up at the finish.

The Finish with Randall Foils

  • The finish is completely automatic, extremely fast and efficient.
  • Light hands at the finish, no firm tap down is required. This will assist in responsive rating changes and fast racing starts.
  • Only the blade is drawn out of the water with a light tap down.
  • No water trail from the oar shaft.
  • Reduces the change in boat speed cause at the catch and finish evidenced by a smooth boat wake
  • Improves the capacity to move into a higher rate

The Recovery with Randall Foils

  • A uniform catch, drive and finish improve balance and a smooth recovery.
